August 9 is National Book Lover’s Day. It’s an unofficial holiday meant to celebrate literature in all its forms, encourages people to put away their smartphones, turn off their computers, and pick up a book. These days, that message has never been more important.
Reading in the U.S. has reached an all-time low. According to a recent study by nonpartisan think tank Pew Research, around 28 percent of Americans read for pleasure on any given day. Leisure reading, as the organization calls it, is declining amongst all age groups.
This year, let’s see if we can change that.
Let’s encourage people to read more. Let’s celebrate the fact that books are the foundation of modern society. And let’s unite in our shared love of literature, starting with the clothes we wear.
We’ve compiled a few of our favorite clothing designs for book lovers below – we hope you find something that catches your interest!
1. An Accurate Definition
We’d say this describes most of the people here pretty well.
2. Similes are Often Based on Experience, After All
Has anyone here actually gone a day or more without reading? If so, would you mind telling the rest of us what it’s like? We’re a little curious.
3. Scheduling Conflicts
Who needs bars, restaurants, or parties? Sometimes, relaxation is as simple as turning the page.
4. It’s Nearly Always True
Name just one adaptation that the above statement doesn’t apply to. Go ahead. We’ll wait.
5. They’re The Unsung Heroes of Our Time
Librarians are important and are definitely unsung heroes in any community.
6. More People Should Follow This Advice
Libraries are essential. They’re a cornerstone of communities, giving disadvantaged people the opportunity to learn, look for jobs, and find new friends. Moreover, they’re living monuments to history, collecting stories and knowledge from across the centuries.
7. Books or Fists. Those are the Options
Really, some people deserve to be punched. But for some reason, that’s not socially acceptable. Better to forget about them with a good book.
8. Sounds Pretty Great, Honestly
Also known as “the introvert’s dream vacation.”
9. It’s True, You Know
We’re not really sure how literature would protect the human race from whatever killed them off. But we’re certain it would. Somehow.
